On June 25, 2017, we saw some changes in the SERPs. On the facts generated by google, semrush specialists notified SEO’s to ensure that our websites are not affected by updates to Google’s algorithms. Since there are ways we can prepare, if we have not yet seen any change in our results, then we must prepare for the upcoming Google SEO updates.

Now we must bear in mind that Google likes to be in the news …!

But hey, it must be said that Google has been consistent with its updates every year. After the RankBrain update  in 2016and when Google launched an update titled Fred in March 2017 . Now it was all on June 25, 2017, when everything started again . Also, I’m not sure if this update can also be called Fred.

Some fluctuations in the metrics and traffic of some accounts that management was affected. And, people started discussing the same thing on Twitter as below:

So, the tweet from Barry Schwartz spoke of a takeoff of the Google Algorithm Update. But, as we see, John Mueller of Google, answered on those doubts, calling it only ” random talk “. Looking at the fluctuations in semrush, here are a couple of things that SEOs need to be more aware of:

1. Jump first in Mobile indexing

When we saw some talks about the update, people started looking at their tools to confirm about the fluctuations in their industry and ranks.

4. Be very careful in your Linkbuilding strategy

Google recommends not focusing explicitly on building links, as it can damage your website and not do any good to it. Here is a video of John Mueller from Google explaining the link building:

5. Always take penalties into account

It is always advisable to check if your website has been penalized by Google. This test should become mandatory when your rankings appear to be going down. Here are a couple of ways you can always use to find out if your website has been penalized by Google.

  • Check the search console. If you are assessed a manual penalty, you will see it in there.
  • Determine which pages saw the traffic fall. If you are only viewing an affected page, it is not an algorithm change.
  • Check all the organic traffic data. If you have been affected by an algorithm update, you should only see an impact on Google.
  • Look at your competitors. Did your competitors see any change? Algorithm updates tend to be oriented to certain types of search results and industries. Take a look at the rankings of the competitors.
  • At the end of the day, you may not have been hit with a penalty at all, and it is important to look at all the other factors that could lead to a drop in traffic first.

How to overcome Google’s penalties?

Remove or remove links if:

  • The site is not indexed in Google, this would indicate a penalty.
  • The site automatically accepts links without any manual revision.
  • The site has a lot of spam links pointing to it (type the directory URL in Open Site Explorer and see what you can find!)
  • The site has categories for everything imaginable (cars, vacations, sunglasses, web sites, accommodation, dresses, etc.).
  • The site is obviously part of a network in which there are a lot of directories related to similar names / similar websites, etc.
  • The site contains keywords such as “best”, “links”, “tips seo”, etc. in the name.

If the site shows ‘ powered by phpLD ‘ or ‘ PHP Link Directory ‘ in the footer, it is most likely a spam-type directory. That’s not always the case, but 90%, it’s more likely to be true.

During a recent link removal campaign, we got a webmaster to remove a set of 20 link directories that pointed to our client’s website. They could not be bothered to remove links from each site individually, so instead they took each site offline so that all links disappeared!

The moral of the story behind the latest update of Google’s algorithm on June 25, 2017 is that it is a wake-up call for all SEO professionals who do not focus on the guidelines offered by Google. To make the most impact of SEO, you have to keep up with the times and continue to be educated on Google’s best practices.
