How to Install WordPress on Hostinger

Option 1 – WordPress Installation with autoinstalador of Hostinger

This option is recommended if you will use the Hostinger panel for your hosting. This installation method is very simple and you can understand better through the video below, or step by step.

If you prefer to set up WordPress with autoinstalador of Hostinger in steps follow the steps below.

  1. Go to the control panel and click the icon Hostinger Auto Installer .as install-it-wordpress
  2. Enter WordPress  in the search field. You will be presented with the latest version of WordPress. Click it.
  3. Fill in the necessary data:

    • URL    address of your WordPress site. Leave blank if you want to set up WordPress on the root domain name.
    • Language    Choose the language WordPress.
    • Administrator Username –  You need to use this user name to log into the WordPress dashboard.
    • Administrator Password –  A password you have to enter to enter the WordPress administration area.
    • Administrator Email –  Your email address. It is recommended to enter an email address to work here because it will be used for notifications and password reset.
    • Site Title –  Your WordPress site title.
    • Tagline website –  your website slogan, used to explain about what is your website.
  4. Press the button Install .

And that’s it! Now you can log in to the admin panel and start creating your site.

Option 2 – How to Install form of WordPress

If for some reason the automatic installer of WordPress is not suitable for you or just want to know how this CMS, there are other ways on how to install WordPress. These are the steps you must follow to complete the manual installation of WordPress:

  1. Download installation files.
  2. Use FTP client to send WordPress files to a web hosting account.
  3. Create a MySQL database.
  4. Open your domain in your Web browser and launch the WordPress installation wizard 5 minutes.

Step 1 – Download the installation files 

First, download the latest version of WordPress . The installation files are compressed in .zip file. Extract the file to any folder on your computer. You will end up with a folder called “wordpress”. This folder contains the installation files WordPress .

Step 2 – Use the FTP client to upload the installation files 

Second, you need to upload the extracted files to a hosting account. There are a few ways to do this, but the most convenient way is using FTP. In Hostinger, the details of the FTP can be found in section Access to FTP . If you need help to connect to FTP, see this tutorial .

Open the folder wordpress  in your FTP client and upload all  his files to the hosting account.

NOTE:  We are using the File Zilla  to upload files, but you can use any FTP program you want.

Step 3 – Create MySQL database

WordPress generates content dynamically each time the visitor enters the site. All information is stored in the database. So you need to create one.

You can create a MySQL database on the control panel of Hostinger -> section of MySQL databases . Visit this section and enter the following details:

  • database name MySQL
  • MySQL username
  • password

Step 4 – Run the WordPress installation wizard in 5 minutes

At this stage, all files must be sent to the server and the MySQL database must be created. Now you can proceed with the installation wizard. Access it by opening your domain name with a web browser.

WordPress 5 minute installation wizard has 6 steps in total:

  1. Select your language and press Continue .
  2. The WP will ask to collect the details of MySQL. Since you already have, press the button Let’s go !.
  3. . In this screen enter your database credentials MySQL and the host name of the MySQL You can find what is your host name in the field of Hostinger members -> section of MySQL databases . Press Send  when ready.
  4. WP will see if you can connect to the MySQL database. If there are no errors, press Run Setup .
  5. At this stage between the main site and administrator information and press Install WordPress :

    • Site Title –  title of your website.
    • Username –  Administrator’s username.
    • Password –  Administrator password.
    • Your email –  admin email address.
    • Search engine visibility –  If you select this option, the WP will try to prevent search engines from crawling your site.
  6. That is, the installation is complete. Press Login  to access the WP admin area.

How to Install WordPress in cPanel Hosting

If your web hosting provider uses cPanel for managing accounts – this part of the tutorial is for you. Below you will find two different ways on how to install WordPress in cPanel based hosting.

Option 1 – Installation with Softaculous Auto Installer

Due to its easy installation and maintenance, Softaculous is an auto installer for popular web hosting providers using cPanel. With Softaculous you can install a handful of different CMS and Apps with just a few mouse clicks. To make it easier to understand how to install WordPress in cPanel created this video, but you can also follow through the steps below.

You can also follow these steps to install the WP with Softaculous:

  1. After accessing cPanel, locate the icon Softaculous  and click it.
  2. Click the icon WordPress . Should be on the first page Softaculous.
  3. You will see the Softaculous WordPress installation window. It has some different settings:

    • Choose Protocol –  Choose the protocol for your site. If you have SSL installed, it is highly recommended to install WordPress on protocol HTTPS .
    • Choose Domain –  If you have sub – domains or add-on domains in your cPanel, you can select them here.
    • In Directory –  Insert the WordPress installation directory. If you want to install WordPress in the root domain name, leave it blank.
    • Site name –  enter the site name.
    • Site Description –  Your description of the site goes here.
    • Enable Multisite –  Choose whether or not to activate the WordPress Multisite. This feature lets you create multiple WordPress sites using the same installation of WordPress.
    • Admin Username –  Choose a username for your administrator account.
    • Administrator Password –  password for your WP admin account.
    • Administrator E-mail –  enter your email address here. Be sure to enter an e-mail job, as it will be used to send notifications and requests for password reset.
    • Select Language –  Choose your language here.
    • Select Plugins –  Choose the plugins you want to pre-install.
  4. Press the Install  and Softaculous will begin installing.

Option 2 – Manual installation in cPanel

To manually set up in cPanel, you have to follow these steps:

  1. Download installation files.
  2. Upload files using cPanel’s File Manager.
  3. Create a MySQL database.
  4. Run the WP 5 minutes installation wizard.

Step 1 – Download the installation

The latest version can be downloaded from the official website here . Click the Download WordPress  to start the download. Save the .zip file on your computer. You will need it in the next step.

Step 2 – Upload files using the File Manager

As you may already know, there are some ways to upload files to the web hosting account. One is using the File Manager cPanel:

  1. Access cPanel and open the File Manager .
  2. Open Directory public_html  and press the button Upload .
  3. Press Select File  and choose the WP .zip file you downloaded in step one.
  4. When the download is complete, the status bar turns green. Press Back to the button “/ home / username / public_html .”
  5. Select the .zip file, press the button Extract  and Extract file (s)  to proceed.
  6. WordPress files are in the folder named wordpress . Unless you want to access your blog via you need to move WP files to the directory public_html . To do this, go to the folder wordpress , select all the files and click the Move .
  7. Delete wordpress  file path you want to move the files and press the Move files  (s).
  8. Finally, select the folder wordpress  and the .zip file while holding down the key SHIFT  and press the Delete .

Step  3 – Create MySQL Database

There are two ways to create a MySQL database  in cPanel. You can do this manually in the MySQL Database section (see this tutorial  for more information) , or use the Database Wizard MySQL . The second option is easier to use:

  1. Go to cPanel and click the icon MySQL Database Wizard .
  2. Enter the name for the MySQL database.
  3. In this step, enter the username and password. It is recommended to use the tool Password Generator  because it will generate random, secure password for you. When finished, click the Create User .
  4. Would you like to assign all the privileges for your user. Select ALL PRIVILEGES  and click Next Step .
  5. That is, the MySQL database along with the user was created successfully.

. IMPORTANT: Note the credentials of the MySQL database you will need them in the next step.

Step 4 – Run 5 minutes installation wizard

At this stage, all files must be loaded and the MySQL database must be created. Let’s go ahead and start the installation process. Open your domain name into a Web browser and follow these steps:

  1. Choose your preferred language and press the button Continue .
  2. On the next screen, you are asked to gather all the information needed for manual installation. You can go ahead and press Let’s Go  button once you already have everything you need.
  3. Now enter the database information MySQL created in Step 3  and press the button Send .
  4. WordPress check the credentials of MySQL are correct. Press Run Setup .
  5. On the next screen, you will be prompted to enter the details of your administrator account and blog. Enter all the necessary details and press the button Install . It is highly recommended to enter your real e-mail address because it will be used to reset the password of the admin area if you lose it .
  6. Congratulations, you have just installed manually.

How to Install WordPress on a VPS Ubuntu 4.16

If you have a VPS running on Ubuntu 4.16 and need to quickly create a blog, WordPress is the fastest and easiest way to start. VPS is particularly useful when your site gets traffic or has many pages that require additional resources.

Before proceeding with the installation of WordPress, the following software must be installed on your VPS Ubuntu:

  • Apache Web Server
  • MySQL
  • PHP

You will also need an SSH client to connect to the nano text editor to edit the WordPress configuration file:

Step 1 – Installing Apache Web Server

Use the following commands to install the Apache 2 Web server on your Ubuntu VPS:

sudo apt-get install apache2
sudo service apache2 start


To test if the Apache installation was successful, visit your server:

You should see the default Apache 2 page.


Step 2 – Installing PHP

Execute the following commands to install PHP and the necessary libraries on your Ubuntu system:

sudo apt-get install mysql-php7.0 php7.0 libapache2-mod-php7.0 php7.0-cli php7.0-cgi php7.0-gd

To make sure your PHP is installed and working properly, we will create a basic PHP file, name the file test.php in the apache directory / var / www / html :

sudo nano /var/www/html/test.php

A nano editor window should open. Paste the PHP code in the window below:

To save the file use CTRL + O , and then to exit CTRL + X .

Step 3 – Installing MySQL Database Server

To install the MySQL server that will save the WordPress records, run the following command:

sudo apt-get install mysql-client mysql-server

You will have to set the password root (administrator) to manage the MySQL database. Create a secure password , and then click ENTER to continue.

It is recommended that you should take precautions during the installation process before. Running the command below, we install some plugins (including plugin validate_password ). Answering Y for all issues except that asks if you would like to change the password Root, then press N to this question and then ENTER .

sudo mysql_secure_installation

Step 4 – Installing WordPress

First, we must download and uncompress all files. To do this use the command:

cd / tmp
wget -c
tar -xzvf latest.tar.gz

Now, we must move the folder to the Apache server directory.

sudo cp -R wordpress / * / var / www / html /

Now, take possession of the WordPress files:

sudo chmod -R 755 / var / www / html /

Step 5 – Setting up the WordPress database

Log into the MySQL Shell:

mysql -u root -p

To create the database necessary, we will have to run multiple commands. Enter each code and hit enter to continue. Note that you will need to fill in your own values for the placeholders db_name , db_user  and db_user_password :

Privileges GRANT ALL ON db_name * TO 'db_user' @ localhost IDENTIFIED BY 'db_user_password.';

Rename wp-config-sample.php to wp-config.php :

cd / var / www / html /
sudo mv wp-config-sample.php wp-config.php

Now update the settings using the nano text editor:

sudo nano wp-config.php

With the necessary settings for your database name, MySQL User and passwords. Note that these must be the same that you set up earlier ( db_name , db_user and db_user_password ).

Restart Apache and MySQL:

sudo service apache2 restart 
sudo service mysql restart

Step 6 – Finishing the installation WordPress

Open your browser and visit the address of your server. You must be received by the famous 5-minute WordPress installation screen on your screen. Now just provide the details needed to complete the installation of WordPress.

You can access the WordPress installation wizard entering localhost: 8888 in your browser.


Here is the database details you can use to install WordPress:

  • Database Name – The value that you created in step 2. In our case it is w0rdpr3ss .
  • User – root
  • Password – root
  • Database Host – localhost
  • Table Prefix – Default value wp_ . But you can change it for security reasons.

Installing WordPress on Windows using WampServer

To install WordPress in local Windows, we use WampServer, or   W indows, The pache, M ySQL, P HP. This is a perfect tool to set up WordPress on a local Windows system.

Step 1 – Installing WAMPServer

First, please download and install on your computer. The wizard is simple and requires no configuration, so we can continue until it finishes. You will see an option to choose as the default browser and text editor that will use WampServer.

Step 2 – Creating a database for WordPress

Before continuing the installation of WordPress, we need a database. WampServer access to your taskbar and start phpMyadmin .

  • User: Root
  • Password: (leave empty)


Navigate to session database and create one for your WordPress site.
